Cathy Richards
When you return from a Tupperware Conference or Incentive Trip feeling pampered, inspired and appreciated, Event Manager Cathy Richards knows she’s done a great job.
Extensive training, recognition of achievements, amazing gifts and networking opportunities – these are just some of the benefits of attending a Tupperware event. Whether it’s an incentive trip or a Manager Conference, Tupperware events provide a unique experience to meet other Managers, learn the secrets of their success and receive the inspiration required to accelerate your own business.
Perhaps no one understands this better than Cathy Richards. Tupperware Events Manager for 14 years, Cathy is the brains behind Tupperware events, hatching creative ideas to ensure that each Tupperware event is a valuable and memorable experience for everyone.
Cathy worked for Tupperware for six years during the 1980s and returned to the Company in 1996 to head up events planning, one of the most exciting roles in the company. “It’s a big job but I absolutely love it,” says Cathy. “We plan an event in terms of what is required for the business, be it a conference, incentive trip, meeting and so on, then we decide on a date. A site inspection is carried out if it’s an incentive trip – yes, that means I get to see some amazing parts of the world. There’s usually a lot of excitement around the office as we plan the event, set the itinerary and organise every facet. And that excitement only builds as we get closer and closer to the date. We're really excited about KL right now!”
Cathy has recently finished planning the latest Manager Conference, which will be held in spectacular Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and will cater to 650 delegates. “It’s going to be huge!” she says.
The Kuala Lumpur Manager Conference will kick off with a Malaysian-themed welcome dinner at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in the iconic Petronas Towers. The conference will also include training and an ‘experience Malaysia’ activity day for those who qualify.
Cathy says the best part of her job is seeing the successful conclusion to an event. “Seeing an event come to an end and knowing that everyone has had a magical time is the most satisfying part of my job,” she says. ‘There are always some challenges involved in planning events, but we always smooth things out to make sure the event is seamless.”
Cathy struggles to single out a highlight event in her career with Tupperware. “They’re all been great. They’ve all been amazing,” she says. “It’s been an honour to be involved in all of them. But probably my favourite was Adelaide Manager Conference in 2006 – it’s my home town and it was just beautiful – we had opera singers and everyone had a wonderful time. Everything went so smoothly.”
Cathy has had a colleague helping with events management for the past 18 months. “Michelle Bach has brought so much to the events role. She is a visual merchandiser by trade and so she does lovely invitations and themes and design so its fantastic having her working with me.”
An eye for colour and design has been essential in planning the gala dinner for the Malaysia Manager Conference. ‘The theme is ‘Bollywood’,” says Cathy. “The colour, the music, the sights, the sounds, the whole atmosphere –it will be amazing.”
