Demonstrator Questions

Hi Nicole, thanks for talking to Insight. Firstly, can you tell us how you party planned with your Host to make this party so successful?

This fundraiser was for the Southland Downs Syndrome Support Group. This group is mostly made up of parents of children with Downs Syndrome. I spoke with one of the parents from the group to work out what would be the best way to reach out to everyone within the group.

It turned out they were all going out for a meal two weeks before the fundraiser date. I made up party packs for everyone who would be attending the dinner. Each pack had catalogues, outside orders forms, fundraiser invitations and posters. I also spent a little bit of extra time typing up a cover letter which outlined the details and also set each person some goals to achieve, eg: at least $250 in outside orders before the party, one party booking each before the party and also to bring along three people to the event itself.

Anya, who was one of my key Hosts took all of these packs along to the dinner and handed them out. They then had two weeks to 'go hard' and get as much done as possible.

Was your Host an outside date or dated at a party?
I held a party back in February and my Host, Jackie had a son, Braden with Downs Syndrome. It turned out that one of her guests at the party, Anya also had a son, Mason with DS. As I touched on the fundraising opportunity at the beginning of my demonstration they thought it was a good idea and then I showed them some of the literature (invites, posters etc) at the end of my demonstration and explained to them how it all would work. They didn't date the party straight away but said it would be April/May. They contacted me and booked the party late March so we had plenty of time to discuss and plan before the fundraiser on 30 April.

Can you give us five tips on how to hold a successful party?
Go the extra mile with your party planning, making sure it will be suited to the group/Host you are working with. I sounded out my Hosts to see if they would be happy with the wee challenges I set them. This may not be suited to some people.

Keep in contact with your Host/s to make sure they are happy with how the planning is going and also make sure you are prompt in getting back to them with any queries so they do not get unsure of how things are going to go.

On the day/evening of the party make sure you are on time, well presented and have everything looking presentable. Doing that little something special/extra can make all the difference, such as props.

Host Questions

Hi Anya, thanks for talking to us today. Firstly, can you tell us what you most enjoyed about your party?
The fact that we made lots of money and were able to see new Tupperware products. Also it was very simple and stress free thanks to our Demonstrator’s planning.

What did you do to make your party so successful in terms of promotion and pre-party activity?
Gave out packs to everybody at our pre-event dinner. We had a fantastic Demonstrator who made things nice and easy with party packs and a cover letter. Everyone was extremely supportive of the fundraiser.

What do you plan to do with the money you raised?
Some of the money will go towards booking Chipmunks playland for a family get-together with all the DS support group families, and some will help pay for a local member to travel to a DS National forum in Auckland in September..

Would you host another Tupperware in the future?
Yes, but a long time into the future as I have had a lot to do with Tupperware lately.

Anything more you would like to add?
Our Demonstrator, Nicole was wonderful and we have received many comments on her Demonstration. All in all it was very successful.
